Ben Wilson

ben wilson This is the blog of a one Ben Wilson, a Louisville, Kentucky native who enjoys baseball, beer, music, bikes, things that fly and good food. By day he pushes pixels and makes the Internet happen for a local advertising agency. His wife, Kelly is an Ironman, and his baby Amelia is the cutest thing ever.

That’s right, ladies and germs, the Onion, America’s Finest News Source, has done an interview with my favorite English transvestite comedian, Eddie Izzard.

Apparently, Eddie has just wrapped up a role in The Cat’s Meow, a film about Charlie Chaplin with Kirsten Dunst. He speaks about that, his start in acting, and a good portion about Lenny Bruce, and his playing Bruce on stage.

Greetings, all… If you’ve been wondering why I haven’t posted much here in the past while, it’s been because I’ve been working on the new version of the site. While the look and feel will stay much the same, a lot of the back-end stuff is changing. I’m trying to make this site work with two different databases, and making it easier for me to implement new stuff into the site.

The passwords will also change, and I’ll let you know when that happens with some sort of mass email. I’m also working on user news submissions, so HOPEFULLY, I can actually get people to come here to the site and READ, REPLY, and/or SUBMIT some news. It’s really kinda depressing to see “0 Comments” ad infinitum, but I think that is for a couple of reasons, really. A) I’m Boring B) User interaction on the site is mighty low (i.e. no posting of news by users, just me (and Hunter).

In any case, I’m working diligently. For you.

I wrote a couple of articles over at NerdPerfect (after a long absence). They are mainly of a techie-dork substance, so I didn’t feel justified in putting them here. So, here’s some links:

You Can’t Polish a Turd, But You Can Release Nice Screen Shots of It

The Story of Ping -or- How the Internet Keeps a Joke Alive

Flix – Video to Flash, Reviewed by Wonko

Okay, so the last one is a bit of mindless link propagation (MLP for short), but give ‘em a read if you wanna. Enjoy!

Just got word that BlandPlanet has a new design, and is being updated rather regularly.

BlandPlanet, for those of you who don’t know, is the rambling of a mad man! Ok, so maybe it’s not… It’s essentially all things Gary. Anime, video games, music, you name it. It’s there…

Now, just as soon as Gary (aka MaxMok) gets me a nifty little BlandPlanet button, I’ll put it up.

That’s right ladies and gentiles, it’s Stephen Hawking’s birthday today, he turns 59. Which happens to be 31 years longer that what doctors told him in 1963, after being diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

Stephen Hawking, sex offender(?!), gangsta rapper, voice actor, godless heathen, inspiration to half-assed MP3 artists, and of course, certified genious, we salute you.

Daily Radar has an interview with the folks (or a folk) from the Criterion Collection.

Lots of good stuff here, including “Why the hell did Criterion release Armaggedon?!” (my first question), to “Will you release any porno films?”. They also seem to mention all of the Criterion films that I own, including Rushmore, the Se7en (sic) Samurai, and the Beastie Boys Video Anthology. God, I love that format.

One salivating, titillating tidbit: There was talk of a The Godfather DVD in the works by Coppolla. Oooh… Luca Brasi sleeping with the fishes in full, 1.85:1 aspect ratio, DTS theater sound. I have to clean myself.

First off, lemme explain everything2. It’s a network of information, informally arranged, constantly updated, and always growing.
Essentially, you enter definitions of stuff that you know of, and link words in your definition to other everything2 entries. Needless to say, this makes reading everything2 incredibly addictive. Just about everything (squared, even) is in this web of knowledge. (A sidenote, Dave G. from work notes that everything2 is merely a knock-off of HyperCard, which also sounds intriguing.)

A couple months ago, I was cruising through everything2, and I came across a REALLY interesting node, regarding some really bizarre, but intriguing masterworks.

Oh dear… according to FuckedCompany, the “dot com deadpool”, Space.com has closed it’s DC office.

For those of you who don’t know what F—edCompany is all about, in a word, it’s revelling in the dot com bust of late. For each disparaging news item about a dot com, a “severity” is applied (from 1 to 100). Those users who called that company previously (your “picks”) received points based on that severity and how long they have held that company.

So, this “fuck”, as the kids are calling it, was worth 80 points. That’s pretty garish. Well, it was a good idea, I hope that they get picked up by somebody, maybe even the gubment!
