Ben Wilson

ben wilson This is the blog of a one Ben Wilson, a Louisville, Kentucky native who enjoys baseball, beer, music, bikes, things that fly and good food. By day he pushes pixels and makes the Internet happen for a local advertising agency. His wife, Kelly is an Ironman, and his baby Amelia is the cutest thing ever.

PM has a reprint of a 1950 article about how things would be in 2000. It’s not entirely off, and some of the stuff is somewhat accurate. Albeit with a 1950 kitschy twist. Check it here.

Well, it seems that Pets.com is suing Robert Smigel creator of, among other things, Triumph, the Insult comic dog. “What for?” you say. Pets.com believes that Triumph has “degraded the image of the Pets.com spokesperson”. Smigel is counter with allegations that Pets.com stole the idea from him. Well, you can read all about it here.

Well, so i bought all of these pentium machines at the Computer Show about a month ago. Most had been rotting away in a box in my room, but then i thought “I’ve got this decently fast machine running theLocust.org, but one of these slower ones would work JUST AS WELL.” So, i swapped the drives and network cards out, and BLAM! It works. I’m pretty happy. So, if you should notice any anomalies on TheLocust.org, let me know. Check the System Information page for the changes.

Today, in 1626, Francis Bacon, English philosopher and statesmen, died after attempting to find a better way to preserve food. He bought a chicken, and stuffed it with snow. Bacon then caught a severe cold which eventually turned to bronchitis, and later died. According to that fount of wisdom, Gary Larson, “while it must have been traumatic, the chicken survives the ordeal”.

Well, I thought that everyone LIKED being able to see an entire, uncut movie in Widescreen format. Apparently, this guy doesn’t. He also likes DIVX (for the uninformed, a DVD format that doesn’t support widescreen). He also drives a horse and buggy, and enjoys using a typewriter and correction fluid. Oh, and the Earth is the center of the universe.

Well, as most, if not all of you noticed that the site and all concordant functions were down earlier today, everything has been fixed. Apparently, whatever upgrading/maintenance Bellsouth did between 2am and 6am this morning fouled me up. (Well, actually, i guess i shouldn’t have just assigned myself an IP. So, everything should be keen now. Sorry for the downtime.

This is the bittersweet tale of Mike, the rooster from Fruita, Colorado, who in the 1940′s lived for 18 months with NO HEAD. It’s bizarre, but the people in Fruita are honoring him with a 300 pound statue. To hell with Merriwether Lewis, i want a HEADLESS CHICKEN!

ADDENDUM: Here is the full story, with pictures of Mike, the Headless Chicken.

Wow. John Katz, author of _Geeks_, and frequent Slashdot writer, has posted a very interesting story about his “Showdown with the Pinkertons” over a program called WAVE, which promotes a “thoughcrime” sort of system, where students can “inform” administrators about possible “threats” at school. John Katz has written at length on the subject of the ostracization of outsiders in todays schools, not to mention todays society. The article is a bit long, but it is well worth the read. And feel free to comment. I’m tired of seeing 0 replies :)
