For those of you who aren’t reading Achewood already or have previously attempted to grok that golden action and failed due to it’s sheer subtle gynormity, let me tell you that NOW NOW NOW is a perfectly opportune time to get yourself hooked. There are things happening on an epic scale with a story arc that is so brilliant and exciting that I am considering running to California to spy through Chris Onstad’s window to see just what will happen next.
Start here (January 11, 2006) with a seemingly innocuous tale about a squirrel and his new product, and read through the present day. And hang on, ’cause as far as black-and-white cats go, this story is epic. Fighting, family and a fake sacks on cellphones. Chris Onstad brings it to you for free.
Occassional readers of comics, like say Garfield, may not quite “get” Achewood. It’s a whole world created a panel at a time – and the punchlines are long and sometimes elusive. The characters come and go and even have their own blogs, and seem to use language like a man solving a Rubik’s cube in a wind-tunnel. I love it.

This has already bested my previous favorite arc, “Cartilage Head.” I had forgotten that the ball had started rolling with Todd’s business venture. The storyline’s are just flowing into each other. My prediction right now is that Beef throws the fight, allowing Ray to fulfill his destiny.

Ok, so up until Thursday I had never seen Achewood. That has all changed now. I have read the entire strip, from 10/01/2001 through Sound and Motion succumbing to the flying elbow, at the expense of much coding. You could say that I am now thoroughly addicted. Ben, couldn’t you have waited until the conclusion of the Great Outdoor Fight arc to post the link? Then I wouldn’t be jonesing for the next strip. Damn it all! Damn, I say!
The robot protection mechanism on the comments doesn’t seem to be working for IE 6.0. I tried on 2 different machines, and I would see the text image flash, but then it would disappear. I finally just used Opera. Just FYI.
I’ve mentioned Achewood before, like here, sorta here and a a little here.
But certainly not in relation to my love and dedication to the strip. Kelly is just recently a big fan….
