Ben Wilson

ben wilson This is the blog of a one Ben Wilson, a Louisville, Kentucky native who enjoys baseball, beer, music, bikes, things that fly and good food. By day he pushes pixels and makes the Internet happen for a local advertising agency. His wife, Kelly is an Ironman, and his baby Amelia is the cutest thing ever.

Peace, love, and fruity drinks to all of you in the new millenium.

Barring unforseen 2k1 bugs (heh), theLocust.org should continue on its snails-pace development! But seriously folks. Take my wife, please!

Whew. Anyway, I guess the development will continue, and it should. Though, i’ve been heavily involved with another project (MPy3), a management system for my car MP3 player. (see my Sourceforge project page here and a local page here at theLocust.

Well, back to theLocust for a minute. I’ve been having fun admin-ing this box for the past year (in fact, it makes one year sometime early in January). Though, I REALLY need to get the user news submission stuff up and going, and hopefully people would USE the site. Gah. Oh well. It’s all been fun.

Well, I’m off to get HORRIBLY smashed.

Ta-Ta!

I guess it was bound to happen someday.

There can be a lot of stress in tech companies, but who knew it would ever manifest itself in this way? Yeah, we techies are a lot of geeks, some of us even perhaps a wee bit socially inept, so was this really unexpected? Lest we remember Columbine and the other countless school shootings.

I always found my success in finding a good job just retribution for being bullied by the “cooler” kids in school (whom are now laying lawn-timbers for Joe’s Landscaping, I might add).

Though, it seems he might have been fed up with RealPlayer

I would just like to send a “Merry Christmas” out to all of you Christians out there. And even for those who don’t count yourselves among their ranks. Christmas may be about Christ to some, but for me, it’s always about giving thanks for friends and family.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

All Hail Kang! New Ruler of The United States of Kang! CNN is reporting that Al Gore is to address the nation tonight at 9 PM (supposedly to concede, though they didn’t postulate on that one), and that he has informed his recount committee to suspend operations, and pack it in.

Well, as much as I wanted to see Gore win this thing, I’m glad he is bowing out now. Many democratic pundits have stated that they want nothing more than for Gore to go out guns blazing, but that is truly silly. Give Bush a shot for four years. If he mucks things up, rest assured the Dem’s will control the senate and house in 2 years.

Me, personally? I’m glad. I haven’t had anything to bitch about in 8 years.

Oh, and don’t blame me, I voted for Kodos!

Next week will be the Christmas Edition of the most listened to Canadian technology web-radio show, Does Humour Belong In Technology. Don’t listen, what ever you do!

And this is for Adam and Jase.

Kentucky, my home state, has put all of the currently incarcerated felons up on the web, with a search engine. KOOL, with its horribly gaudy acronym, allows you to search by name, penitentiary, crime, age, whatever. Search for lost family members NOW!

Okay, so I stole this from WonkoSlice, but it’s too good to pass up… A woman in Newport News got something very unexpected in a box of chicken wings from McDonalds. It was a fried chicken head. Oh, there is a picture with the story as well.

Now, I’m no big fan of Christianity, but I am a fan of history, and the printed word. We all remember who Gutenberg was, right? No, not STEVE Gutenberg, but
the famous German man who invented moveable type, right? Good, well, a couple of places have put their copies of the Gutenberg online.

Here is the British copy.

And here is a copy of it in Germany

Plenty of site news, Gallery, WidgetBars, Users being able to post their own stories, etc. Read on!
{more}

Well, as some of you have noticed, the Gallery was acting up. Well, i took it out to dinner, and bought it flowers, and now it’s acting right again. Sorry for all the confusion.

A couple of other things. As you may notice, the right side of the page is now home to the “Widgetbar”. Which, in German, means Bar of Widgetry. Well, i’m planning on making many more little widgets (including one with REAL TIME earthquake data). Soon, users will be able to configure their widget bar the way they want (shock!), etc, etc. So, if you have an idea for a widget, let me know, and I will code it post-haste!

Also, as soon as I tweak this thing out a bit, all current users who want to, will be able to post stories. Hunter has been my testing guinea pig, and things seem to be going rather well with the posting. So! That’s on my to-do list.

Again, please please please keeping reading, and for the love of god, make some conversation. I’m trying really hard to get hits (AND USERS) to the site. I’m attempting to make this site worthwhile, so let’s get it on!

(You may want to view the WebTrends Stats at the bottom of the page. I’m starting to get more hits, but no new users. I need users! And users want conversation.)
